Did you know that there are more than 100 cannabinoids in a cannabis plant that interact with the body’s systems? With so many different cannabinoids when lingo such as cannabinol isolate starts getting discussed it can be confusing.
Cannabinol (CBN) is one of the many cannabinoids that you may not have heard of before. Keep reading to find out more about CBN and the benefits that it can have.
Cannabinol
Cannabinol is a mildly psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It is a byproduct of THC.
Over time THC gradually breaks down when exposed to light and air. When this process happens, CBN gets created. You can find CBN in higher amounts in older cannabis.
Originally scientists believed that CBN was the reason for the intoxicating effects of cannabis. However, it is now known that this is caused by THC.
Cannabinol Effects and Benefits
Cannabinol like other cannabinoids interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. When interacting with the cannabinoid receptors cannabinol dispatches chemical messengers between nerve cells.
These messages encourage the release of hormones and neurotransmitters that keep your body performing well. CBN also produces what is called an entourage effect.
It does this by working together with other cannabinoids. When the entourage effect occurs it enhances the benefits of cannabis.
CBN can also have benefits as an antibacterial, a neuroprotectant, an appetite stimulant, an anti-inflammatory, and it may have benefits in the treatment of glaucoma.
One of the great things about cannabinol is that it is considered non-intoxicating. CBN is known to act as a sedative and cause drowsiness. However, studies also suggest that cannabinol is not solely responsible for sedative effects caused by cannabis.
Cannabinol Isolate Explained
CBN isolate offers the compounds of cannabinol in the purest form. To create CBN isolate there is a process to extract the cannabis oil from the plant. Then all cannabis plant materials get filtered out except for CBN.
While in the past the majority of individuals who wanted to increase their consumption CBN relied on older cannabis, this is changing. CBN products are now starting to be offered by manufacturers.
Some of the CBN products offered are CBN oil and CBN isolate. A large quantity of CBN isolate can be obtained and then used to create CBN capsules, CBN edibles, and CBN tinctures.
Research is still not comprehensive on CBN and there is currently more research available on pure CBD.
Is CBN Legal?
Cannabinol and all marijuana is illegal at a federal level. However, many states have begun to legalize the use of and purchase of marijuana.
The only time CBN is legal is when it is made from hemp. However, because CBN is only found in trace amounts in hemp it is difficult for manufacturers to create CBN products using hemp.
