LIQUID lipsticks are making a return.
Applying like a gloss but drying to matte, they were all the rage in 2015 for zero-smudge results.
We put three new liquid lipsticks to the test
But they came with a huge downside – dry, chapped lips.
A new-generation has hit shelves, and this week I try three brands.
I love the shape of L’Oreal’s lipstick applicator
L’Oreal Paris infallible matte resistance lipstick, £11.99 for 5ml, superdrug.com: I love the shape of the applicator, it’s almost a heart, and the product sits in the middle which means you get even application across the lip without having to double-dip.
It glides on easily and has great pigment, but once it dried down it felt quite tight and I noticed there was a slight transfer of colour from my lips to my mug when I had my morning coffee.
That aside, it faded evenly and was easy to top up.
A good budget option, but not my first choice.
Being a Charlotte Tilbury fan, I was very excited when I heard about their new launch
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Lip Blur, £27 for 6.8ml, charlottetilbury.com: Back in the day, Charlotte Tilbury made my go-to liquid lipstick and I was gutted when it was discontinued.
So I was very excited when I heard about the new launch.
The formula felt surprisingly soft and hydrating, which is great if you suffer with permanently dry lips like me.
But it does impact the staying power – so if you want something that will stay all day, you’ll be disappointed.
It takes a while to dry but, once it does, it’s not sticky and doesn’t transfer.
For comfort alone, this is my favourite.
I found it harder to apply Dior’s lipstick neatly and I had to use a cotton bud to clear up my lip line
Dior Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Lacquer Lipstick, £37 for 6ml, boots.com: I’ve only ever tried hydrating, glossy formulas from Dior so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this formula.
It’s by far the most fluid of the three, so you need less product to cover your lips and it really feels weightless.
But it’s also harder to apply neatly and I had to use a cotton bud to clear up my lip line.
It dries very quickly and once set does not budge – I had to use an oil cleanser and flannel, and really scrub to remove.
If you want something that stays, this will be your favourite.
