Karen J. Gerrard is a skincare expert and founder of the UK-based brand Seams Beauty Hand Care.
Her range of beauty products has been designed to moisturize, soften, and protect hands while also strengthening nails.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she revealed an effective hand cream isn’t the only necessity needed to keep hands ageless.
STOP SAGGING
Gerrard revealed the hands are the first part of our body to age because the skin on them is thinner.
She said it’s “simple” to slow the signs of aging on the hands but it requires moisturizing the skin at least three times a day.
She recommended her Seams hand cream formulated with 10 natural ingredients.
“Seams will keep skin plump, help to heal minor cuts, and stop the aging effects from dry skin,” she said.
She said hands should also be massaged throughout the day to stimulate blood flow, making them look plump.

“Another tip as you get older to give the appearance of younger-looking hands is to keep nails shorter,” she said.
“Wear a light color nail varnish and lots of hand jewelry nails shorter.”
Creative hobbies can also keep hands in good working condition.
“Crafting such as kitting will keep hands dexterous and supple so you will be less likely to get arthritis or other aging conditions,” she said.
Gerrard revealed that there is a “strong link” between nutrition and skin health therefore three vitamins should be routinely consumed.
“Taking vitamin A will help thicken skin leaving it less likely to sag and wrinkles to appear,” she said.
“Vitamin B7 feeds the skin with fatty acids that help keep skin smooth and sealed to prevent water loss.
“Vitamin C is an antioxidant and can help decrease wrinkles and fade pigmentation research has shown it really will help brighten skin.”
DIMINISH DAMAGE
Gerrard said it’s “very difficult” to reverse the signs of aging on the hands once it’s occurred because they are mostly bone, but it isn’t impossible.
Drink plenty of water especially when you first wake in the morning to give your hands a kick start.

She recommended plumping the skin by staying hydrated.
“If you pinch the skin on the top of your hand and it doesn’t immediately go back then you are dehydrated and your skin can become saggy,” she said.
“Drink plenty of water especially when you first wake in the morning to give your hands a kick start.”
She said the appearance of wrinkles on the hands can also be reduced with a salon treatment.
“Radiofrequency puts heat deep into the hands to help tighten loose skin,” she said.
“Transferring fat into hands will help increase collagen production, plump skin, and keep hands soft and supple but will only last for a couple of years.”

She added that gloves should be worn when washing and cleaning to “protect from the chemicals” in cleaning products and the “drying effects” of water.
“Keeping your cuticles moisturized and smooth will help protect the new nail growing underneath, so that it grows up healthy and strong reducing the chance of those vertical age lines appearing,” she said.
Gerrard said bulging veins would require a hand specialist conducting sclerotherapy to improve their appearance.
The treatment involves having a sclerosing solution inserted into the veins causing them to collapse.
Microdermabrasion, laser therapy, and chemical peels are among the professional beauty treatments available for minimizing age spots.
However, a skin-lightening cream can also be used at home for visible results.
