Skincare expert and award-winning aesthetics practitioner, Amish Patel, revealed there was one ingredient to add to your skincare routine if you really want to see a difference.
“One of my favourite scientifically proven ways to reverse the signs of ageing is incorporating retinol into your everyday skincare routine,” the expert told the Express.Â
“Retinol is a hugely popular skincare ingredient in professional skincare and many high-street brands.”
The active ingredient works wonders on wrinkles and even acne thanks to escalating skin cell turnover.
Not only that but it also Retinol also exfoliates your skin and increases collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a fresher, plump appearance, reports UpCircle Beauty.
The best time to start using a retinol is in your twenties, but it’s never tool ate to start as you will still see the benefits.
While Amish recommends a medical-grade retinol, there are plenty of options on the high-street.
The Ordinary offer a 1% retinol in squalene for £7.90 or you can find a tailored made retinol to suit your skin type from online pharmacists, Dermatica, for £24.99.
The skin whizz added: “You’ll get better results and probably have to use less on applications.Â
“For example, for serums or creams which contain retinol, you would be looking at 0.03 percent to 0.3 percent of the active ingredient to have any marked difference on your skin.Â
“However, if you are new to retinol, choose a product with the lowest concentration and gradually increase it.”
For those with extreme acne scaring, you could try tretinoin which is twenty times more potent, said the skincare pro.
one of the downsides to this miracle working ingredient is that the ksin can purge during the first two to six weeks of use.
Purging can look like lots of new spots coming to the surface, but will often stop as the retinol rids your skin of any impurities.
Due to the exfoliating nature of retinols, it’s extremely important to wear an SPF during the day to protect the skin.
