Nasrin Truong (@rinitruong) routinely shares beauty treatments and random moments in her life on TikTok.
“If you’re going through hair loss like this, stay tuned,” she said showing handfuls of hair on the bathroom floor.
“If you’re struggling with telogen effluvium or any other form of hair loss, you’re not alone and you’re not being dramatic for being upset over it.
‘I felt so invalidated by my loved ones and I turned to support forums.
“The product that saved my hair from this kind of hair loss is minoxidil,” she said holding bottles of the remedy.
“Minoxidil is the active ingredient in Rogaine but you can also find it in tons of other products as well.
“So for anyone who’s thinking seriously about using this to combat hair loss, you have to stay on this for the rest of your life.
“Otherwise you’re just going to lose all of the hair that you grew.”

Nasrin came closer to the camera to show the baby hairs that filled her hairline.
She said it had been two months since she last bleached her tresses and the new growth can be seen where her color has grown out.
She demonstrated applying Minoxidil to small sections of her hair, before brushing the product through to achieve full coverage.
“I take a pipette full and I begin by dropping it, dropping, dropping, dropping, dropping, then I go to the next little zone,” she said.
“Drop it, drop it, drop it, and then I either take the bamboo brush and I brush it back to disperse it, or I just keep going toward the back until it’s applied to all of my head.
“But you don’t even have to do that because the liquid will travel down to the back of your skull anyway.
“I prefer to still use this just because I feel like it disperses it more evenly,” she said holding up the brush.
Nasrin shared words of encouragement for sufferers of hair loss in the caption of her video.
“For anyone struggling with hair loss, I see you, and your feelings are valid,” she wrote.
“I know that hair grows back and there are ‘bigger’ problems, but that doesn’t make this any less traumatic.
“You will get through it and you’re still beautiful, even if it’s hard to feel like it.”
She revealed which brands of Minoxidil she uses on her own hair in response to a comment after the video went viral.
“The brands I use are Amazon and Kirkland,” she said. “2% is FDA approved for women, 5% isn’t but I’ve seen plenty of women online use 5% without a problem!
“Also men’s Minoxidil is cheaper and 5% would work faster, that’s why I switched to it.”

Amazon’s Rogaine store sells a three-month supply of women’s 2% Minoxidil topical solution for $48.
It has a 4.3-star rating and thousands of glowing reviews from buyers who were pleased with the results of the hair growth treatment.
Among them is a woman who has been using Rogaine for over 30 years, having developed androgenic alopecia in her early 30s.
“The liquid is great,” she wrote. “Easy to use even though you use it twice daily.
“After about 20 years of use my hair texture began to change. I had stick-straight hair and now it is wavy/curly.
“I don’t mind because I always wanted curly hair and at least I have hair.
“I think the main reason I have had great success with this product is because I caught the condition quickly and began treatment.
“I have a thick head of hair even in my 60’s. If you wait til there is very obvious hair loss you may not get the results you want.”
A study published by the National Library of Medicine found that 5% topical minoxidil was more effective for hair growth in women with female pattern hair loss than 2% topical minoxidil, after 48 weeks of twice daily use.
Researchers said both concentrations of topical minoxidil were well tolerated by the women in the trial without evidence of systemic adverse effects.
However, they added that results from using topical minoxidil can be variable.
