The makeup artist explained that as we age our makeup should be adjusted to stop us from looking older than we really are.
So that highlighter you used to love? It might be time to wave goodbye.
One of the main things people forget to incorporate into their skincare routine is exfoliation.
It’s a good step to include at any age, but vital if you want a youthful glow as you get older.
“If you don’t exfoliate your makeup will not be great, your skincare will not penetrate,” she explained.
The second step to looking younger is using the right primer, not one made for oily, young skin.
Even if your skin is still oily, you need something hydrating, Ericaexplained.
The colour of your foundation can also make or break your look.
“If you foundation is too light your skin will look grey and tired and dusty and that is not good.
“Either match [your skin tone] or go a little deeper,” she said.
This will “warm your skin up” and create a more glowy and young appearance.
You should also avoid old makeup trends, like thing eyebrows – this is a huge giveaway that you’re older.
Avoid overly thin and arched brows and instead go for something more natural and straight.
As for blush and bronzer, try applying it slightly higher on your face for to create the illusion of a lift.
When it comes to your eyes, a thinner liner will always look better than a thick line, since there tends to be less visible space on your eyelids as you age.
Colour-wise, avoid eyeshadow shades that are grey-toned and go for warmer colours instead.
Erica’s simple changes mean you can still look young and wear makeup just be adjusting the way you apply certain products.
