A suspicious substances discovered in the White House that caused a brief evacuation has been confirmed to be cocaine.
The white powder, found on Sunday evening, has preliminarily tested positive for cocaine, an official with knowledge on the investigation and a responding Washington DC fire crew dispatch recording told The Washington Post.
Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the substance is being further tested and there is ‘an investigation into the cause and manner’ of how it got inside the White House, the newspaper reported early Tuesday.
President Joe Biden was not at the White House when the substance was discovered and a security alert and evacuation were carried out, according to Guglielmi.

A firefighter with the department’s hazardous materials team radioed the test results to dispatch at 8.49pm: ‘We have a yellow bar saying cocaine hydrochloride.’
‘Bag it up and take it out,’ the firefighter said to the hazmat team.
The substance was discovered by the Secret Service’s Uniformed Division who were doing their rounds.
Exactly where in the White House and how the substance was packaged has not been disclosed.

DC Fire and EMS Department spokesman Vito Maggiolo told The Post that the agency only ‘provided support to the US Secret Service as they conducted an investigation’.
The substance was discovered two days after the president’s son Hunter Biden visited the White House. Hunter has admitted that he was previously addicted to crack cocaine, leading some conservatives to speculate that he brought the substance there.
Far-right Newsmax host Robb Schmitt commented: ‘It wouldn’t be a thumpin’ July 4th weekend without Hunter Biden ripping lines off of a bust of Teddy Roosevelt.’

Meanwhile, entrepreneur and social media personality Matt Wallace claimed that ‘the Cocaine found at the White House is not from Hunter Biden’.
‘The real story is actually much worse than that! Many of Joe Biden’s Top Staff regularly use Cocaine and other Hardcore Drugs,’ tweeted Wallace. ‘The cleaning crews are tasked with hiding all traces but this weekend was especially bad!’
A Secret Service representative told the New York Post that it ‘does not comment on an active investigation’.
