While lost pets have reunited with their owners, a teddy bear named dad incredibly traveled more than a thousand miles back to its three-month-old owner.
Violet Boyer and her mother Natalie Balmer, 25, took the teddy everywhere as it was nicknamed after her father Brock Boyer, 25, who was stationed with the US Air Force in South Korea since a week before they knew about the pregnancy.
‘That bear is so special because we carry it around and call it her dad,’ said Balmer, according to the Mirror.
‘He’s away in the military so we like to bring the bear and take pictures with it. We send it to her dad and tell him he came here with us.’
But Balmer noticed that the teddy was missing as she and Violet were getting into her car while visiting her hometown in Pensacola, Florida, on May 28.
‘We looked everywhere and couldn’t find it anywhere. I was really upset,’ Balmer said. ‘Violet’s still very young so I don’t know whether she realized but the bear is a comfort for me as well.’
Violet’s grandmother, Carianne Nicole, took to Facebook and posted to see if anyone might help locate the teddy.
Just a few days later, Nicole received a message from a family in New York who found the bear in a museum and happened to see the post. The family had a feeling that the teddy was ‘significant’ to someone and kept it.
They then mailed the teddy 1,200 miles to Pensacola.
‘The post was shared over three thousand times but it’s still amazing that someone all the way in New York happened to see it,’ Balmer said.
‘They got in touch with my mom and said they knew it must hold sentimental value so kept it.’
Violet was ‘so excited’ when her mother unveiled the teddy.
‘She had the biggest smile on her face and was giggling,’ Balmer said.
‘We’re hoping Brock will be home next month but for now we’re so happy to have “dad” back.’
