5 Ocean Activities You Don’t Want to Miss

Trying to plan a vacation with everyone in mind? Going to the beach might feel like an activity in itself, but planning some ocean activities is a great way to fill your break with lots of memorable moments.

1. Snorkeling and Scuba Diving 

If you like to get out and explore your environment, snorkeling and scuba diving can be fantastic ways to take in the local flora and fauna under the sea. If you haven’t been scuba diving before and don’t want to spend your vacation getting certified, give snorkeling a try.

2. Whale Watching

For those looking for a dryer activity, whale watching is a great way to explore the ocean and watch some beautiful animals in their home. Depending on the beach and ocean, you will be able to see different whales, dolphins, and other animals while on a tour. These can last anywhere from an hour to a full day, so be sure and check if you need to book ahead and what kind of excursion works best for you.

3. Swimming with Sharks

If you’re feeling like a daredevil, swimming with sharks is a great ocean activity to get your heart rate up. This is, of course, nothing like in the movies, and it’s a safe activity to engage in, but it’s not for the faint of heart. The sharks you encounter will depend on the ocean and the area you’re visiting. 

4. Surfing

If you want to work up a sweat in the water, surfing is the way to go. It’s a great workout and can be loads of fun. Your skill level may determine where you go, so if you’re bound for one beach or coast, consider how strong the waves are.

Not all beaches are good for surfers, so check the area before renting a board and wetsuit. You’ll want to be sure you can handle what the ocean throws at you on the board. 

5. Sand Activities

If you’re not thrilled by the idea of swimming all day long, there are plenty of things to do that keep you nice and dry as well. Combing the beach for shells and shark teeth may feel like a perfect afternoon for some.

If you’re looking to express your creative side, take a stab at sandcastle building. There are some incredibly impressive castles you can use for inspiration while working on your own. This can be a fun ocean shore activity for the whole family.
