4 Healthy Habits for Pregnant Women That’ll Surprise You

Want to introduce more healthy habits into your pregnant lifestyle? It’s not too late. Even if your previous routine included a healthy dose of clubbing and champaign, introducing healthy habits into your lifestyle now will decrease your risks during pregnancy.

Best yet, it’s simple. Read on to discover 4 simple habits that make your pregnancy (almost) painless.

1. Healthy Sleep Habits

Anxiety. It’s one of the most common reasons women suffer from insomnia while pregnant. Other reasons include bodily changes:

  • Pressure on your diaphragm
  • Increase in need to urinate
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease

Those are just to name a few. When you become pregnant, your hormones go crazy, producing a cascade of effects throughout your body.

In the first trimester, spikes in your progesterone levels leave you with a drowsy sensation. You may feel like you need to sleep all the time but grow restless when you try.

The third trimester, on the other hand, is estrogen-charged. High levels cause some women to develop rhinitis which leads to sleep apnea.

The best way to combat these problems is through a routine schedule, regular exercise, and a balanced diet. If you still have trouble, try journaling before bed to reduce your racing thoughts.

2. Healthy Eating Habits

A poor self-image is common among pregnant women. Let’s face it, your body is changing. Rapidly.

And you might feel those changes aren’t doing anything for your sex appeal. Worse yet, those funky shifts to your hormone levels are leaving you feeling anything but balanced. That’s where your diet comes in.

You’re going to put on weight and your belly will swell. That’s natural. But, how much weight you gain is up to you.

You needn’t give in to every craving. Be sure to eat a full, balanced meal during regularly scheduled meal breaks. Keep healthy snacks on hand for those between-meal cravings. Fresh fruit and nuts are two great examples.

3. Healthy Daily Habits

Your pregnancy at work guidelines during Covid-19 pandemic include multivitamins, yoga, and frequent walks. Prenatal vitamins provide your body with the additional nutrients it needs to create a healthy baby. That includes folic acid, calcium, and iron to encourage proper development and prevent birth defects.

Yoga will help your changing body remain limber. It also affects your cortisol and serotonin levels, reducing your anxiety, leaving you with a clear head.

Frequent shifts in your position, such as standing and walking, will reduce pain in your lower back and legs. Movement stimulates both your blood and lymph flow. It will help your body get rid of the overabundance of hormones your body produces during pregnancy.

4. Healthy Living Habits

Whether you blush, snort, or cringe at the subject, sex is a regular part of any healthy relationship. It deepens your intimacy and gives your partner a sense of connection that sometimes gets lost during pregnancy. But is it safe?

The simple answer is yes. So long as you aren’t suffering from placenta previa or other high-risk pregnancy factors, you can have sex until the moment your water breaks. The hardest part may be finding a position that’s comfortable for both you and your partner.

Incorporating Healthy Habits into Your Lifestyle

Don’t introduce all the healthy habits at once. It increases the chance that you won’t maintain them. Instead, try introducing an additional habit each week. By the end of the month, you’ll use them all and be more likely to maintain your new routines throughout your pregnancy.
