This month, Emma – who plays the late Princess Diana in season four of The Crown – celebrated her 25th birthday.
As part of one of the most talked-about TV series in the world, the actor was treated to a particularly special birthday treat from her fellow cast members.
On Sunday, Emma shared a couple of videos on her Instagram Story of The Crown stars singing Happy Birthday to her while dressed as their characters.
With the camera beginning behind the head of Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Elizabeth II, the camera then pans around the dining table, passing Marion Bailey as The Queen Mother, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip.
Erin Doherty can be seen belting out the tune as Princess Anne… but the best part comes at the end, when the camera returns to Olivia.
In a moment completely out of character for the monarch she plays, the Oscar-winning actor turns to the camera, putting up her middle finger as the song draws to a close.
The video ends with the cast applauding their joint singing efforts in honour of new cast member Emma.
In a caption written on top of the video on her Instagram Story, Emma said: ‘I plan to watch this for every birthday I have from now on.’
Filming for season four of The Crown took place between August 2019 and in March 2020.
Therefore, this video was most likely filmed to mark Emma’s 24th birthday last year… but is now a memento she can watch every year.
In addition to the video, the actor also shared a picture on her Instagram Story of herself enjoying a birthday cake.
Last month, Emma shared an anecdote about how people ‘fainted’ when they saw her mother when she was younger, due to her mother’s strong resemblance to Princess Diana, whose death had been announced just hours before.
The actor was just a couple of years old when Diana died in a car crash in 1997.
‘I hesitate to tell that story because it almost sounds too insane to be true,’ she told Interview magazine. ‘There’s this theme throughout my life of Diana cropping up. It doesn’t feel ordinary.’
