The obscure 2019 horror movie, which wasn’t released in UK cinemas, has impressed horror viewers since it arrived on the streaming giant’s platform.
Haunt’s popularity is surprising, as it was released in US cinemas in 2019 with minimal promotion and was not well received by the public at the time.
The film, made by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods – co-writers of A Quiet Place – revolves around six teenagers attending a haunted house attraction on Halloween.
The fun turns into a nightmare when the group are met by a trio of masked, blood-thirsty killers who have been stalking them throughout the house.
After watching Haunt, viewers took to social media and expressed shock over the movie’s scare quotient.
Taking to X(Twitter), one user penned: “Well, Haunt on Netflix is pretty terrifying, isn’t it”.
Another hailed: “Currently sat watching Haunt on Netflix, it’s giving me anxiety on the highest scale. Unlocked a new fear of horror houses and chainsaws.”
While a third viewer simply described the film as a “must watch”.
Haunt has earned a rating of 70 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.9 out of 10 on IMDb while currently sitting at the top of the Netflix movie chart.
With the creators of the 2018 horror smash A Quiet Place involved, it is no surprise that the film has the right amount of thrills and jump scares.
The movie, starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, grossed $341m (£269m) on a budget of just $17m (£13m), becoming one of the biggest hits of 2018.
A sequel was released in 2021, and a prequel will be landing later this year.
Last week, Netflix viewers praised the “criminally underrated” Sandra Bullock comedy The Lost City, which earned first place on the platform upon its arrival.
Most recently, after years of suspense, the streamer has finally given fans a sneak peek at the second season of Squid Game.
The show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, previously shared he felt under pressure after the first season received such an overwhelming reaction.
Now, the wait is almost over, as the streaming platform released a trailer for the second season.
Haunt is available to watch on Netflix.
