Relationships can be tough at the best of times, and depending on what statistics you believe, 30% to 50% of all marriages end in divorce.
Communication plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy marriage and how we express ourselves to our partners can increase the longevity of our relationships.

While there are many reasons why a couple would split up and divorce, according to Private Investigator Aaron Bond of Bond Rees Private Investigations there are clear signs that indicate the end of a relationship.
Aaron says “Our team have worked on over 15,000 relationship cases and within minutes it’s clear to see if a couple is going to make it or not.”
And it all starts with how they greet each other.
1. Greetings
“How a couple greets each other is one of the biggest indications of whether they will stay together.

“This can be observed within 30 seconds of watching the couple interact.
“Rather than offering a warm and welcoming greeting to each other, if you start off your interaction by complaining or criticising each other, it suggests that there are problems within the relationship.”
Small actions when the other half isn’t looking can also be dangerous to a relationship.
“A lack of respect shown through eye rolling is something we have observed to spell disaster for a relationship too.
This show contempt for a person rather than love and it’s only a matter of time before the relationship is on the rocks.”
“When one partner rolls their eyes at the other it signals dismissal or superiority and is a clear sign that they are not taking their partner’s feelings or opinions seriously,” warns Aaron.
2. Verbal cues
How we talk to our partners can affect our relationship. Using absolutes to describe their actions negatively might make them feel awful and resentful.
Aaron says “If you or your partner use terms such as all the time, always, never, no one, nobody and ever, for example ‘why do you always burn our food, can’t you do anything right.’
“Then your relationship could be in big trouble.”
3. Stonewalling
Some arguments need to be walked away from to give both partners time to calm down.
This is normal, but if you find yourself or your partner withdrawing from the interaction consistently then there is a good chance that your relationship is about to end.
Aaron says “Stonewalling is when one partner withdraws from the communication and shuts down.
“This could be anything from avoiding eye contact, giving short snappy answers, or completely ignoring the other person sometimes for days at a time.”
“Stonewalling can sometimes be normal where a person feels overwhelmed, but consistent stonewalling is damaging to a relationship as it stops problems from being resolved.
“This creates emotional distance between partners and can lead to both parties feeling lonely and isolated.”
“While you may think that shutting down communication may de-escalate a situation, the opposite often happens,” he continued.
“When one partner stops communicating, the other may feel the need for engagement which can lead to heated arguments and violence.”
