When choosing a blanket, most people would not consider the option of cotton vs linen. After all, what is the difference? Both materials are soft and can be used in cold weather. Which one should you pick for your house then? Find out by reading on!

Do you understand the distinctions between linen and cotton blankets? Despite the fact that both materials are organic, they each have unique qualities that make them more suitable for particular applications.

What Distinguishes Blankets Made Of Cotton From Those Made Of Linen?

The two materials’ appearance and texture are the most noticeable distinction between them. While linen blankets tend to be more rough, cotton picnic blankets are much softer to the touch. Cotton blankets have a velvety feel that is unmatched by any other type of blanket. Cotton is the material to choose if you’re searching for a plush, soft blanket.

Linen is a stronger material than cotton, making it more durable. In comparison to cotton, linen is less likely to fade or shrink. With the right care, linen clothing may last for many years, making it a great investment for the wardrobe.

Cotton blankets tend to be less expensive than linen blankets. However, they may not last as long. Given that linen lasts longer than other fabrics, the initial cost can end up being justified.

Both materials should be cleaned by running a cold, gentle cycle through the washing machine. However, linen blankets should be hung to dry, while cotton blankets can be tumble dried on low heat.

Is Linen More Comfortable Than Cotton?

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of slipping into a bed made with fresh linen sheets. The fabric is soft and supple, and it has consistently laundered well. Many people find linen more comfortable than cotton, which can feel scratchy. It is a bit rougher but also more breathable, which can be helpful in hot weather. It also has a tendency to absorb, so it can keep you dry and cool.

Does Linen Last Longer Than Cotton?

Linen sheets are significantly different from other types of bedding, including cotton. The good news is that linen sheets are surprisingly robust: Compared to cotton, linen is roughly 30% more durable, and although they may seem crisp at first, they will eventually soften.

Why Is Cotton Cheaper Than Linen?

The main reason linen is more expensive than cotton is that it is a luxury fabric. The flax plant is used to produce linen, which is a delicate and labor-intensive procedure. Flax isn’t grown as regularly as cotton, so linen costs a little more than cotton.

Flax is primarily grown in temperate settings, and because only specific plant components can be utilized, flax linen production is more challenging. The fibers are also shorter than cotton fibres, so more of them are needed to make a fabric. Each of these elements influences the increased cost of linen.

Is The Cotton-Linen Blend Good?

A linen-cotton blend is a wise choice if you want the best of both worlds. The linen adds durability and breathability, while the cotton provides softness and absorbency. Compared to 100% linen, this fabric is also easier to maintain.

Does Cotton And Linen Blend Wrinkle?

Cotton linen blend fabrics are less likely to wrinkle than 100% linen fabrics. However, they may still wrinkle more than 100% cotton fabrics. If you are looking for a fabric that won’t wrinkle, choose a blend with a higher percentage of cotton.

Does Cotton And Linen Blend Shrink?

Like any fabric, a cotton linen blend can shrink if it isn’t laundered properly. To prevent shrinking, wash the fabric in cold water and hang it to dry. The cloth can also be tumble dried on low heat.

How Is A Cotton And Linen Blend Ironed?

Ironing a cotton linen blend is similar to ironing any other type of fabric. Set your iron to the appropriate heat setting for the fabric, and then use a steam or spray setting to dampen the fabric lightly. Ironing while the fabric is still slightly damp will help prevent wrinkles.

Does Egyptian And Regular Cotton Differ From One Another?

Yes, there is a difference between Egyptian cotton and regular cotton. Egyptian cotton is made from the longest and strongest fibers, which results in a higher quality fabric. Additionally, it costs more than regular cotton. Egyptian cotton is the greatest option if you want the highest quality. Otherwise, regular cotton will do just fine.

How Can You Tell Linen From Cotton?

Looking at the cloth is the simplest way to distinguish between linen and cotton. Linen is rougher and more textured, while cotton is softer and smoother. Additionally, you can feel the distinction between the two fabrics: Cotton weighs a little less than linen.

Moreover, you can also moisten your finger with clean water and rub it against the fabric to determine which is cotton and which is linen. Linen will be the material where the stain will absorb more quickly and penetrate the opposite direction.

Does Linen Shrink Like Cotton?

Absolutely, linen can shrink. In this respect, linen and cotton are similar. So, avoiding hot water while washing or cleaning linen garments is crucial. When washing linens, only use cold water on bright linen apparel to prevent fading. Use warm (NOT hot) or cold water and hang it to dry. Do not put it in the dryer. If you must use the dryer, use the lowest heat setting.

Bottom-Line

So, which one should you choose? This is a difficult question. Both options have their pros and cons. Ultimately, it depends on your specific situation.

It totally depends on the qualities you want in a blanket. If you want something that will keep you warm and cozy all winter long, something soft and cuddly to snuggle up with, go with the cotton blanket.

But if you want a lightweight option that’s perfect for summer nights, a breathable and durable blanket that will keep you warm all winter long, the linen blanket is your best bet.
