Every year, around 2 million Americans spend $500 on fragrances.
Yet, despite spending a lot of time and money, many of us still haven’t found our signature scent. If you’re looking for your perfect perfume, we’ll give you the factors to consider when standing at the scent counter.
For perfume or cologne tips, let’s get started!
1. Figure Out Your Favourite Ingredients
When you start looking for a fragrance, you first need to be clear on the ingredients that you like. Take a sniff from the bottles of friends and try to identify exactly what the ingredient you like most is.
This may be difficult when you are first starting out, but keep a note of the ingredients in the bottle. By putting together a profile of ingredients you like, it’ll be easier to ask the shop assistant for help.
2. Your Scent Should Match Your Personality
Are you a bubbly, energetic person or are you trying to convey an air of mystery? Whatever your personality traits, try to match your cologne or perfume to them. But, don’t make the mistake of purchasing a sultry scent for a long day in the office.
Some scents will wake you up in the morning and have a bright, fresh smell. Others are better for use in the evening when you’re heading to a bar. A great choice for this is Hugo Boss. find hugo boss dark blue here.
To ensure your scent matches your personality, take a friend shopping with you and ask them whether this new smell suits you.
3. Choose the Right Concentration
Did you know that there are four different types of concentration? The concentration you choose will not only dictate the smell and how long it lasts, but also the price of the perfume or cologne. There is:
- Parfum or perfume with the highest concentration
- Eau de parfum will last around 5 hours
- Eau de toilette is the concentration most people choose as it is cheaper but will need to be reapplied more regularly
- Eau de cologne will last just a couple of hours.
Now you know how to decipher the bottles, it’ll be easier to judge the price point against the duration of the scent.
4. Test Before You Purchase
Luckily, it’s very easy to test out a scent. Head into your favorite store and find the scent that you think you want to buy by closely reading the ingredients and concentration. First, sniff the bottle and test out a few this way.
When you have found one that you think you would like to buy, spray this on your skin. Do not spray more than one. Then, leave the shop, notice whether you enjoy the scent and time how long it lasts. You may have found the one!
If you aren’t happy with this scent, then it’s time to redo this test. Unfortunately, you may have to test out a few scents before you find one. But, putting the effort in will ensure you don’t waste any money.
Finding the Right Perfume or Cologne Will Take Time
Don’t rush this process. Enjoy looking for the perfect perfume or cologne. When you have made your final decision, you will likely find that you won’t change your perfume or cologne again for a few years.
Unfortunately, buying perfume online is a trickier business. But, it is now possible to order small sample bottles enabling you to try out the scent for longer.
