If you thought Snakes on a Plane unlocked all your fears about flying, wait until you watch the trailer for Hollywood’s new creature feature, which sees a bunch of sharks invading an aircraft.
No Way Up is set for release this year and follows a group of travellers as they become trapped underwater when their plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean. The group must find a way to survive with a diminishing air supply but, even more frightfully, hungry sharks who begin to circle the wreckage.
It stars Colm Meaney, Sophie McIntosh, Will Attenborough and is directed by Claudio Fäh.
The trailer, which arrived this week, reveals how the plane hits turbulence and the engine catches fire before being torn apart and plummeting its passengers into the depths of the ocean.
As they realise their desperate situation, one passenger assures his fellow survivors: ‘We’re in an airlock. It’s safe!’
In a brilliantly accurate nod to our technologically-minded modern society, a woman tries to use her phone – under the ocean! – only to find there’s of course no signal.

Before long, they notice a certain predator is among them and one passenger asks everyone’s burning question: ‘What’s a shark doing on a plane?’
The water begins to rise and the group realise they’re running out of air with the only real option being for them to swim up to the surface. Of course, the sharks are their biggest obstacle in that plan but it looks like they might have rescue after a scuba diver appears at a window. However, he likely fails to save them as the group shout for him to look behind him.
No Way Up is created by the team who made the breath-stopping 47 Metres Down, so you can bet this new instalment promises a gripping watch.
Needless to say, reactions to this new version of Snakes on a Plane were as entertaining as the trailer itself.
YouTube user @TessMac wrote under the clip: ‘I didn’t know I needed to be afraid of sharks on an airplane underwater. Now I am.’
@andywebster8617 commented: ‘Literally my worst nightmares all in one movie.’

Sharing their fears, @thirdmonkey said: ‘Being in the wide open deep water? Nope. Being trapped in a sinking plane? Hell no. Sharks? I’m good. This movie stresses me out.’
@ne0nZchr0me weighed in: ‘They did a Huge disservice not calling this movie “Sharks on a Plane”.’
@krausinator44 quipped: ‘Someone’s about to make it into the mile low club lol.’
It seems survivalist films are the theme of 2024 as Netflix viewers have been raving about new film Society of the Snow, which is based on the harrowing true story of a group of plane passengers who ended up fighting for their lives in the Andes mountains.
No Way Up is released on February 16 in the US but a UK release date is yet to be announced.
