Romero is thought to have concluded his time is up after boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer omitted him from United’s Premier League and Champions League squads.
Ex-Sampdoria star Romero has attracted interest from several clubs ahead of the next transfer window.
And despite five years in the shadows at Old Trafford, United still rate him at around £8-10million.
Romero is under contract until the end of the term and Solskjaer even has the option to extend it for another 12 months.
But the Norwegian has insisted Henderson, 23, will eventually become United’s No1.
Publicly, however, he has also claimed De Gea remains the world’s best stopper.
And even though United’s form has again spluttered this term, the Spaniard’s own form appears to have stabilized after two wobbly campaigns.
