THE US Vice Presidential Debate has made the headlines this morning (Thursday October 8, 2020) – but for different reasons.
The debate in Salt Lake City saw Mike Pence and Kamala Harris face off in the second televised live debate of the 2020 elections. But what happened with the Vice President incumbent?
Was there a fly on Mike Pence’s head?
Yes. During the debate a fly landed on Mr Pence’s head.
The entertaining mishap comes exactly four years after a fly landed on then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s face during her debate with Donald Trump.
Wednesday night’s incident at Kingsbury Hall sparked laughter and comical social media posts from viewers across America.
It even prompted Joe Biden to tweet a photo of himself with a fly swatter.
Biden wrote to Twitter: “Pitch in $5 to help this campaign fly. https://joe.link/3nvsFwL“
What was wrong with Mike Pence’s eye?
Twitter was also alight with talk of Mr Pence’s eye, which was red from the moment he took his seat behind a plexiglass barrier.
Some even questioned whether he was suffering from Covid, allergies, or pink eye.
Despite Pence’s eye redness and the fly’s new fame – President Trump praised his second in command after successfully battling it out on stage with Harris.
“Mike Pence WON BIG!” the president tweeted after the event.
However, Mr Trump’s post was overshadowed by Twitter reactions to the fly’s shock landing.
What are the Mike Pence fly memes?
A meme was also created by a Twitter user showing Barry B. Benson, from the fictional film Bee Movie, sitting on Pence’s white hair.
The Twitter account – dubbed @MikePenceFly___ – gained more than 55,000 followers by 11:30pm.
