AN URGENT police search is underway in Tottenham for a missing suspect after moped riders ‘jumped into the river to escape a police chase.’
Emergency vehicles can be seen lining the streets near Ferry Lane in North London, as the man reportedly entered the water and did not re-emerge.
The street was lit with blue lights by emergency service vehicles in an urgent attempt to find the man.
At least four ambulances and six police cars could be seen in the street as cops cordoned off the area near the River Lea.
According to police, this followed a pursuit of multiple men riding mopeds from the Hackney area.
MPS Haringey tweeted: “Police are dealing with an incident in the area of Ferry Lane, Tottenham.
“At around 2115hrs a male was seen to enter the water.
“He has not been seen since and an urgent search of the area is being undertaken.
“This followed a police pursuit from the Hackney / Tower Hamlets area of a number of males riding mopeds.
“They made off on foot in Ferry Lane. Two males were arrested and remain in police custody.
“Officers continue to work at the scene – cordons are in place.”
