The TV legend had auditioned in full makeup and outfits the day before, but she had the mishap just before she went back for her second audition the next day.
“I did get an opportunity to go back a second time,” she told former pro Strictly dancer, Kevin Clifton on his podcast, The Kevin Clifton Show.
“I was in casual jeans this time, not in an evening dress with my hair bouffanted… but with no knickers.
“It was in a cold studio and I had to take my drawers off because they’d put that wet pack thing on my back with ice and it all dribbled into my knickers.”

She managed to nail the audition despite being pantsless and messing up her lines during her first audition.
“On the first audition my mind was running constantly and I was thinking, ‘I think they want to hear this and I think they want to hear that’,” Shirley explained.
“So I was tripping over stuff that just normally reels out. And I got another opportunity the next day and I went back in jeans and nailed it.”
The ‘Queen of Latin’ joined the popular BBC dance competition in 2017 after taking over from Len Goodman.

She landed the gig thanks to her son Mark Ballas, 34, who reminded her to be herself before going in to audition.
Shirley said: “Mark told me, ‘Just be yourself’.
“He said, ‘You’re the girl from the housing estate mother – it’s OK to be who you are.
“You have knowledge and experience and have been through so many different generations with dance. Just be who you are’.”

Despite her popularity, online trolling has made her feel very judged.
It has even affected her relationship with her body and weight.
“Even now I go on Strictly and the dress is lovely… I look on the TV screen and I see every bump and say ‘Well, you’re still about 6lb overweight Shirley. Cut one sugar out of your coffee this morning’.

“When you get to 60 the body is difficult, but those issues come from years and years ago.”
Regardless of what the trolls say, Shirley has wowed viewers already this year with her stunning choice of gowns.
Fans told her she looked “amazing” and “excellent” ahead of this season’s premiere.
