Eve has been happily married to husband Maximillion Cooper for six years – but if she listened to the trolls, it could have been a completely different story.
The Who’s That Girl? rapper has recalled the nasty trolling she was subjected to for being in an interracial relationship as a hip hop artist when she went public with the businessman 10 years ago.
It was the first time either Eve or Maximillion had dated outside of their races but, in the end, true love prevailed.
Opening up about the early reception towards their romance, Eve – who has just launched her new BBC Sounds podcast Constantly Evolving – told Metro.co.uk: ‘In the beginning it was very hard because obviously, I come from hip hop, there was no other person at that time especially from that world dating outside the race, outside of Black guys.
‘It was not met very well by people I knew for sure.’
Sharing the extent of the negativity, Eve recalled: ‘Some people I was told not to marry Max but it was equally as hard online. When we first started posting about our relationship, we got the worst crazy messages that I can’t even believe someone could write or think or type these words.
‘Over the years, I have to say now it’s mostly 99.9% positive because of us being so confident in loving each other and who we are that people have come around, or those ignorant people have just left my page which hopefully has happened.
‘It wasn’t easy in the beginning.’

Almost a decade of marriage later, the couple are still going strong with plans to start their own family soon – Eve has loved being a stepmother to Max’s four children from his previous marriage, but also hopes to have her own kids in the near future.
Clearly Eve and Max are doing something right as, after all, celebrity relationships tend not to go the course.
So what’s their secret?
‘Girl, I’m still learning, child. Marriage is not easy, I’m literally not going to be one of those women who are like, “You know, we just talk to each other and it’s amazing”,’ Eve admitted.
Continuing to be refreshingly honest, she added: ‘No, there are days when I’m like, “I’m leaving, get out of my face” because we’re human. My husband and I are very honest with each other to a fault. I’ve never been in a relationship like this where it’s been very honest and respectful.
‘That being said, sometimes when you’re really honest you hurt feelings and I think what I’m learning is that there’s compromise. You need compromise, communication and you need respect.’
The Let Me Blow Ya Mind hitmaker continued: ‘You need to understand that this person you’re with is a whole other person.
‘It’s a weird concept when you think about it, two people together. That’s a hard thing but if you’re willing to work at it and understand each other that’s great. He probably is the only person who can make me as mad as he makes me, but he literally is the only person who can make me equally as happy.
‘I love him regardless, it’s great.’
Eve’s new podcast, Constantly Evolving, offers equally refreshing takes on life with a range of celebrities.
Episode one sees her reunited with her Ruff Ryders brother Swizz Beatz to talk about his decision to go back to school and to continue elevating his mind.
Explaining the inspiration behind the BBC Sounds series, Eve said: ‘I just want to talk to people who are going to be real about her life journey because I want this podcast to be inspirational for everyone.
‘Everyone is going through hardships, everyone goes through ups and downs, but it’s about how you like at it, continue to evolve and what we do to get to that next place in life. How do I continue or try to live – I hate this phrase because it’s been so overused – but live my best life but beyond that.
‘I just want people to be inspired every time they listen and think, I can take the jewel and use it in my life.’
Constantly Evolving is available now on BBC Sounds.
