A toddler with terminal cancer will cram holidays including Halloween, Christmas and Easter into a single week so he can celebrate them all one last time. Easton Wilson, from Cincinnati in Ohio, will also enjoy St Patrick’s Day, July 4 and Thanksgiving this month, after doctors warned the two year-old would not live until February.
Easton’s mother Tracy Wilson said: ‘My hope is that he will enjoy every minute of it. It’s pretty important to us because we want to spend as many holidays with him as we can.’
The toddler’s week of celebrations, which have been organized by Make-A-Wish, will culminate with a lavish Christmas parade at the hospice where he is currently staying.
Easton was diagnosed in July, after he suddenly lost the power of his legs. Doctors discovered a tumor in his knee, and diagnosed osteosarcoma – a form of bone cancer.
The youngster’s family agreed to a course of chemotherapy, but it failed to improve his health. A follow-up PET scan showed that the cancer had spread to Easton’s lungs, his other knee, foot and shoulders.
Easton’s family opted for another round of chemotherapy, and say it has helped the youngster with the pain he was suffering. But tragically, the cancer has advanced too far to be cured, and treatments will only buy Easton a little more time.
Tracy told WLWT: ‘We asked them, you know, I know they can’t tell me but, “How much time?” Because Christmas is coming, his birthday’s in February, my daughter’s birthday was coming up.
‘And the doctor basically said, “I wouldn’t see February.”‘
Tracy added: ‘It’s watching your worst nightmare… it’s hard. I don’t wish it on anybody.’
But despite the horrific challenges her family faces, Tracy says she is determined to enjoy the time left with Easton.
She explained: ‘We take our precious hour by hour. And cherish every minute of it.’
