An Amazon driver was bitten on the leg by a ‘highly venomous’ snake and rushed to hospital in a ‘very serious condition’.
The woman was dropping off a parcel in Palm City, Florida, in the US on Monday when the eastern diamondback rattlesnake attacked her.
The reptile had been coiled up by the front door and bit her on the back of the leg, just above the knee, according to Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).
She became ill immediately, but managed to call 911.
Emergency services used the driver’s phone’s GPS to find her location – a gated community called Highland Reserve.
The woman, who has not been identified, was is in a ‘very serious condition’ in hospital, the MCSO added.
It described the eastern diamondback rattlesnake as ‘highly venomous’ and said it was common in the area.

The snake tends to live in forests, sandhills, swampy areas and during dry periods, in wet prairies. Some consider it to be the most dangerous snake in the US.
The MCSO reminded residents who live in areas where rattlesnakes can be found that they should always be mindful of their surroundings.
It added: ‘If you are scrolling through a phone while walking or at all distracted, you might not see them until it’s too late.
‘If you are wearing ear pods and not listening to the outside element, you will not likely hear that warning.’
Branden Baribeau, a spokesperson for Amazon, said their thoughts are with the driver and they hope she makes a full recovery, reports Sky News.

He added: ‘Together, with the delivery service partner, we’re looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident and continue to make sure that drivers understand they should not complete a delivery if they feel unsafe.’
In the UK, a man’s leg swelled up ‘like a balloon’ when he was bitten by ‘Britain’s most dangerous spider’.
Shane Parmenter, 36, from Chelmsford, Essex, was bitten by a false widow spider and has been unable to work because the bite got infected.
Shane, who also raps as MC Napz, says the spider attacked him in his recording studio when he tried to squash it.
