BREAKING NEWS: Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh died at the age of 64 on Saturday. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore for several months now. He is survived by wife Pankaja and twin daughters. Back in 2013, Amar Singh had suffered kidney failure in Dubai. Earlier in March 2020 when rumors surfaced about Amar Singh’s death, the former Samajwadi Party leader had said: “Tiger Zinda Hai.”
According to the latest details, Amar Singh had recently undergone a second kidney transplant. The transplant was successful and he was recovering. However, there was a wound in the wall of his abdomen which wasn’t healing and became infectious. The infection made it difficult for him to survive. The doctors tried to revive him but failed.
Singh’s mortal remains are being handed over to his family, and will most likely be brought to Delhi.
Former Samajwadi Party leader and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh has passed away today in Singapore. He was 64 and had been hospitalised for a long time. Amar Singh was born on January 27, 1956, in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. He was an alumnus of the of St. Xavier’s College and University College of Law, Kolkata from where he earned his LLB.
Amar Singh had been battling health issues for several years. In 2015, he was once rushed to the Fortis Hospital in New Delhi after he complained of uneasiness and had complained of pain.
Amar Singh, a sitting Rajya Sabha MP, had been facing health-related issues for over a decade and had undergone a kidney transplant.
Earlier today, Amar Singh extended Eid greetings to his followers on Tiwtter and also paid tributes to freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary.
It was in 1996 that Amar Singh was first elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh. He was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha in June 2003 and elected again in 2016 from uttar Pradesh. Over his decades-long political career, Amar Singh was part of a number of parliamentary committees.
Meanwhile, reacting to Amar Singh’s death, Rajya Sabha Chairperson and Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu in a message said, “I pay my homage to the untimely demise of Shri Amar Singh. I express my condolences to his family members in this time of sorrow and pray that his soul rests in peace.”
Union Defence Minister Rajanth Singh too expressed his condeolences on Amar Singh’s death. In a tweet, Rajnath Singh said he is saddened to hear about the death of Amar Singh. “He had friendly relations with all political parties.”
Amar Singh, a former general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, was once known to be very close to the party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. However, in 2010, Amar Singh resigned from all party posts and was soon expelled.
