Nowadays 10p doesn’t get you very far – especially in London.
Back in the day, you could buy a Freddo or some sweets from your local corner shop – but getting a whole meal for that price is laughable in 2021.
However, one London restaurant is making that dream a reality.
Later this week, Poppies will be serving up its legendary fish and chips for just 10p.
The team at the restaurant are offering the incredible discount to mark National Fish and Chip Day – which is this Friday (June 4).
Poppies is selling meals at that price to pay tribute to the cost of cod and chips when Pat ‘Pop’ Newland first opened the business back in the 1950s.
Which is great news if you’re trying to get a hold on your post-lockdown spending.
Anyone looking to get their hands on the heavily-discounted fish and chips needs to be one of the first 100 people through the door on Friday – at any one of the three Poppies sites, in Spitalfields, Soho and Camden.
Doors open at 11am – you’ll just need to lay your hands on a 10p piece first.
If you want more treats to go alongside your fish and chips, the Poppies menu delivers on all kinds of delights. Choose from whitebait, scampi and calamari starters, to sides of mushy peas, pickled onions and gravy.
A visit to the chippy will transport you back in time, too, as the shops are filled with retro memorabilia and uniforms give off a 1950s vibe – the music is even tailored to each venue.
If you’re on the hunt for more dining discounts, Nando’s is giving 50% off to all over 65s dining with younger friends or relatives.
They’re cleverly calling it NanGo’s and the offer will run from June 7-9 – you just need to sign up online to get a code.
