NICK Cannon’s dad “had hope” his grandson Zen would survive his tragic brain cancer battle before his death at five months which has left the star and baby mama Alyssa Scott heartbroken.
The 41-year-old star revealed to a live audience on his talk show this week his baby son passed away on Sunday, with family telling The Sun he died in his mother’s arms at the host’s house in Burbank, California.

“I am leaving him to grieve, but Nick internalizes pain,” his dad James Cannnon told The Sun.
“I’ve never seen the pain and the struggles he goes through with Lupus, apart from when he’s in hospital.
“I’m amazed how Nick handles certain issues, and I can’t imagine how it is for Alyssa, being the mom, it’s heartbreaking. She’s devastated.
“I took pictures and held Zen, his bright eyes had hope, and I always imagined him playing ball one day and growing up. I was like, ‘Don’t put no red tag on Zen, you’ve got to have hope’.
“To get the news he passed was so sad, they were taking it day by day. Every day was different. They might have been given a time frame, but I think they were still praying for a miracle.”
Zen started having noticeable health problems in July, as he dealt with congestion, and doctors then measured his head, which revealed he had hydrocephalus.
He had brain surgery and they put a shunt drainage system in his head which is when they detected the brain cancer on the MRI, family previously revealed.
“Operating and the trips to hospital, it was hard for a tiny baby,” James said.
“They believed things would turn around, like ‘We’re listening to the doctors, we see the child in pain, but we believe and have hope.’
“Zen has been Nick’s main focus during these months, he’s been flying back a lot and was there for a lot of appointments.
The model shared a sweet photo and video compilation of the little boy, including clips of his short time spent with his family.
The mother captioned her post: “Oh my sweet Zen. The soreness I felt in my arm from holding you is slowly fading away.
“It’s a painful reminder that you are no longer here. I caught myself looking in the backseat as I was driving only to see the mirror no longer reflecting your perfect face back at me.”

Alyssa continued: “When I close a door too loudly I hold my breath and wince knowing a soft cry will shortly follow. It doesn’t come. The silence is deafening.
“These last 5 months we have been in this race together. We would hand the baton off to each other. You kept me going,” she gushed.
“It would be the middle of the night and you would smile at me. A surge of energy would fill my body and pure joy would radiate from within me.
“We were a team, both determined to see it through. It feels unbearable running without you now. I can’t. And in this moment I feel myself being carried.
“By your sister.. By God. By complete strangers encouraging me to not give up. It has been an honor and privilege being your mommy..”
Alyssa closed: “I will love you for eternity. 6•23•21 – 12•5•21.”
MOM’S EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE
One day after Nick announced Zen had sadly died, Alyssa’s mom Lisa exclusively told The Sun that the model, 28, didn’t know her ex would reveal the news on The Nick Cannon Show.
Speaking at her home in Chico, California, Lisa, 50, wept as she said: “We’re all very shaken up, it’s really hard.
“Alyssa is having a really hard time but she’s so strong, she was the best mom to Zen.
“The six months he was with her she held him and she said ‘Mom, I don’t have any guilt because I know I never got impatient with him, I was always loving’.”
She continued of Alyssa: “She was a good mom and she has taken it really rough.
“I was just crying with my husband, it comes in waves.
“I do good and think ,’He’s in a better place and he’s going to be OK’ but then it hits me like a Mack truck and I start again.”
