Murdered MP Jo Cox’s sister urges Brits to reach out to the lonely this Xmas

BRITS are being encouraged to reach out to the lonely this winter — and not just rely on video calls to offer comfort.
The plea came from the sister of murdered MP Jo Cox as she helped launch the Great Winter Get Together.
Not everyone is online – so say ‘hi’ to a lonely person this Christmas
The Sun has launched its Christmas Together campaign
The Jo Cox Foundation and The Sun’s Christmas Together campaign encourage people to connect with those facing loneliness and hardship.
Kim Leadbetter said: “This Christmas, more than ever, will be hard for so many people which is why we’re asking people to face loneliness together over the next five weeks. We’ve all become used to speaking to each other over Zoom or Facetime.
“It’s also important to remember not everyone is online or tech-savvy and there is no substitute for a real-life smile or friendly ‘how are you?’, even if it’s through a window or from the end of the garden path.”
To take part in the scheme, go to greatgettogether.org.
To volunteer to help with shopping or prescriptions, visit nhsvolunteerresponders.org.uk/christmastogether.
If you need a friendly call or help with shopping, call 0808 196 3646 (8am-8pm, seven days a week).

VIDEO calls were a lifeline to thousands during the darkest days of lockdown.
But Jo Cox Foundation ambassador Kim Leadbeater is right: not everyone is online or tech-savvy and there is no substitute for a real-life smile or friendly “how are you?” even if it’s through a window or from the end of the garden path.
So if you can spare five minutes today, why not help out a lonely neighbour?
