It’s that time of year when the concrete houses become ‘hot boxes’. Everyone prefers a soothing and calm interior for their summer, and of course, the interior setting of a home plays a crucial role in the summer. As all of us know, one way to achieve a cool and relaxing interior is by incorporating light and airy fabrics, but there are other things that also help create a comfortable living space during the hot summer months. Here are a few ways in which you can keep your home cool.

Include Water Features

There are countless ways to upgrade your living room. One such way is to bring water bodies into the home. These need not be large fountains. You can install a small Zen fountain that can be easily found online. These fountains or water features have a calming effect, and the constant movement of the water keeps the air humidified. Additionally, the sound of flowing water can also help to mask unwanted background noise, making it a great addition to any home environment. However, it is important to regularly clean and maintain the fountain to prevent the growth of bacteria and algae.

Use Coolers

Installing coolers is another good way to have a cool home interior. It beats the heat and since it sprays the room with water, make sure you place them near the window so that it doesn’t soak up the furnishings and rugs. Additionally, coolers are a cost-effective alternative to air conditioning units and can be easily moved from room to room as needed. They also provide a natural and refreshing way to cool down the home during hot summer days. Moreover, coolers use less energy than air conditioning units, which can result in lower electricity bills. They are also environmentally friendly since they do not emit harmful chemicals that can contribute to climate change.

Blinds and curtains to block the sun

If space is a constraint and you can’t have a cooler, then adding blinds and curtains is a great way to keep the temperature down. Blinds and curtains block the heat from entering the home and at the same time, keep the home dust free. To clean them, you can easily wipe them down with a cloth. On windows exposed to heavy sunlight, add blinds or shades in thicker fabric or darker colours. This will help prevent damage from UV rays and keep the windows looking new for longer. Additionally, regularly cleaning the blinds or shades will also help maintain their appearance and effectiveness.

Add Green to Cut the Temperature

A great way to cut the temperature in your home is to have a terrace garden or indoor garden. Having plants on your home balcony or indoors can bring down the temperature of your home. Plants have the ability to absorb heat and release moisture, which can help cool down the air around them. Additionally, they also improve air quality and provide a refreshing ambience to your living space. It’s always a good idea to get the help of an experienced interior design team with a track record of implementing eco-friendly design concepts in homes.

Get The Right Lighting

To keep your home interior cool, use as few lights as possible. Lights, be it a CFL or LED, can emit heat when they are turned on for a while. Make sure you switch off the unwanted lights to keep the temperature cool. This is especially important during hot summer months when the heat from the artificial lights can add to the discomfort. There are also different types of lighting fixtures for home that help to keep control on the heat.

Use of Appliances

Each appliance you use in your home produces heat. This heat can contribute to the overall temperature of your home, which can affect your comfort level. Therefore, it is important to be mindful of the appliances you use and how often you use them. Make sure you switch these appliances off when they are not in use.

If nothing else works, hire an interior designer for your home and ask them to make changes to keep your home’s interiors cool. An interior designer can help you with ideas that are guaranteed to make your days cool this summer. They can suggest the right colour palette, fabrics, and materials that can reflect heat and keep your home comfortable. Additionally, they can help you with furniture placement and lighting to optimize airflow and natural light.
