Actually tasty cereal you don’t have to feel guilty about that (Picture: Surreal)
Cereal has got a bad rap over the years.
From the days of sugar-coated flakes to loops of multi-coloured glucose that would be devoured in front of early morning cartoons, it’s safe to say cereal gets a bad rap.
Although they tasted great (who else remembers sprinkling more sugar for that quick morning zing?) they do come with a health warning and as we have grown up, most adults no longer eat them- or if they do it is as a guilt-ridden pleasure that nobody knows about.
We know, we know… eat muesli or a bit of bran. It’s almost the same… but not quite. And while it may be a healthier option, when you’re craving great taste, cereal just hits the spot.
Plus, we some of us won’t accept that cereal is just for breakfast. If you need a mid-afternoon snack or even an after-dinner filler, cereal is sometimes the only thing that fits the bill.
But now we have to be accountable for our decision-making. Luckily, there’s a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel with the new introduction of Surreal, a sugar-free cereal that still tastes absolutely delicious.
Instead of packing their products with sugary carbs, they have cleverly created a plant-based cereal with high protein, no sugar and tastes just like the ones you had as a kid. So you don’t need to feel bad for eating it, or giving it to your little one.
A seven to 10-year-old’s recommended maximum daily allowance of sugar is six cubes. This can be for food and drink together. But one serving of popular supermarket cereals can contain 12 grams of sugar, which is approximately 3 cubes. So if they go back for seconds that’s their daily allowance gone!
If you love to indulge and add a sugar taste to your cereal (but don’t want the actual high-calorie sugar) then the frosted flavour is the one for you. It contains natural sweetener, Stevia, which derives from plants and fruits, such as pears and grapes so zero sugar.
It even has more protein than a portion of broccoli (also not quite sure eating broccoli for breakfast would be quite so appetising).
There are four flavours and are all gluten-free and vegan.
Get tasty cereal back in your life without the guilt – it comes in chocolate, cinnamon, peanut butter or frosted (Picture: Surreal)
For chocolate fiends, then you’ll want to try the cocoa flavour pronto. Made with no wheat and no grains, it contains a delectable mix of plant-based protein, Cassava plant, and blue agave- which basically means all-natural flavours to give you a guilt-free taste.
Variety is the spice of life they say, and if cinnamon is your favourite spice then this is the one to try. The cinnamon loops have just 5g of net carbs per portion compared to 24g in other similar cereals so is a much lighter choice, as well as equally the same yummy taste.
Lastly, the peanut butter flavour packs a punch in the taste department.
One reviewer said: ‘Fantastic product and hits the spot straight after dinner when you’re looking for that munch, Love it.’ So that’s dessert sorted out then.
So if you are wondering how to get your hands on Surreal cereal, then the good news is you won’t have to go far. They offer a monthly subscription service delivered directly to your door that you can choose and update at your leisure.
You pick your favourite flavours online (or buy a mixed pack if you can’t decide) and choose to have a one-time purchase case or a monthly box.
The cereal comes in cases which is a fancy way of saying four boxes and for a singular purchase it is £24 or a monthly subscription starts at £21.60. You can even mix and match depending on your flavour of the month. Bon Appetit!
