People hit the town in York and London as the tier 2 areas allow for friends to drink outdoors.
Under Tier 2 rules, households are allowed to meet outdoors and they can order drinks so long as they are accompanied by ‘’substantial meals’’.
Like the shoppers hitting Regent Street, many seemed in happy spirits as they enjoyed a semblance of post-lockdown life.
However, the party may be stopped sooner than expected as Londoners are set to go into Tier 3 next week.
This weekend has seen extra Covid cops and marshals being deployed to London to deal with the extra people on the streets.
Sadiq Khan announced the last-minute blitz and said there would be even more “hands, face, space” signs on the capital’s high streets in a desperate attempt to quell the spread of the virus.
The nation’s tiers will be reviewed on Wednesday and London’s infection rate is the highest in the UK.
It leaves the capital at risk of moving into the ‘very high alert’ category, something the London mayor is keen to avoid. The whole capital is currently under Tier 2 restrictions.
If the capital does go into Tier 3, pubs and hospitality venues would be forced to close and people would not be allowed to meet with friends and family in their gardens.
A decision is set to be made on Wednesday, with any new plans set to go into effect on Saturday, December 19.
