Hours before the tragedy unfolded, Alec, 63, posed in character on the movie set – located just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The movie star was dressed in old western gear, including dirty cowboy boots, a vest, and a bandana.
He slumped over as he held a jacket in one hand and a cowboy hat in the other.
The Instagram post has since been deleted.
It’s reported that the gun discharged either shrapnel or a bullet, which hit Hutchins and film director Joel Souza.
He continues to receive emergency treatment as he remains in critical condition, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In a statement first given to The Sun, Santa Fe County Sheriff Juan Rios revealed: “The sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot on the set of Rust.
“Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 63, producer, and actor.”

The investigation remains ongoing as witnesses are being quizzed.
The shooting at Bonanza Creek Ranch happened in the middle of a scene that was either being rehearsed or filmed – with the incident potentially being caught on camera, officials confirmed.
Baldwin is yet to comment publicly following the incident. He was unaware of the type of ammunition in the gun, according to Deadline.
He was seen crying outside the sheriff’s office, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican.
Responding to the news, the Cinematographers Guild said: “We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called ‘Rust’ in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set.”
Halyna worked on multiple projects such as The Mad Hatter and Darlin’ before her death.
Baldwin stars alongside actors Travis Fimmel, Brady Noon, Frances Fisher, and Jensen Ackles in Rust.
A rep said: “Production has been halted for the time being on Rust. The safety of our cast and crew remains our top priority.”
The movie is about the Western outlaw who has always had a bounty on his head for as long as he can remember.
