However, thankfully cleaning fans are often taking to social media to reveal their surprising tips and tricks which can help banish stains.
Their homemade tips can also help save you from forking out on expensive stain removal products.
Shannen Ayling is one cleaning fan who recently did this.
She claimed she managed to get her dirty air forces to a bright white by using a simple trick.
Shannen placed her trainers into the washing machine along with two dishwasher tablets which cost around 10p each.
She then puts the washing machine on 40 degrees for one hour and 17 minutes.
Shannen then shows the results and writes: “Clean fresh and white again.”
In the comments section she then explained that she left her trainers on the window to let them dry naturally.
Many people couldn’t believe the hack.
One wrote: “I do this a lot with my trainers. They come out good as new every time.”
Another added: “Everyone says it’s a new pair when mine litro (SIC) look like this after washing.”

However, many other cleaning fans urged her to do this with a pillow case.
One wrote: “Be careful because you can break your washing machine if they’re not in a pillowcase or something.”
Another added: “Trap the laces in the door when you close it then they won’t bang against the drum all the time.”
A third said: “Next time put them in a pillowcase to avoid scuffs on paint work and remove laces and only wash for 10 to 15mins max.”
And a fourth wrote: “I’d never just let trainers whizz about in a washing machine on their own, fill it with towels so it protects the drum.”
