WWE has released John Morrison, Drake Maverick, Tegan Nox, Hit Row and more.
The company has made another round of cuts just 11 days after the last batch of releases, with Shane Thorne and Jaxson Ryker let go alongside Hit Row members Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott, Top Dolla and Ashante Thee Adonis.
As reported by both PWInsider and Fightful, budget cuts were once again cited as a reason.
After the news broke, Dolla – AKA AJ Francis – took to Twitter to comment on the release, which came just days after Hit Row’s B-Fab was also let go.
He tweeted: ‘See y’all in 90 days. #BudgetCuts We Made Something Special and Now We Get To Again #TheCrew @swerveconfident @TheeAdonisWWE @TheVibeBri (sic)’
‘Thank You WWE,’ Ashante added, while Swerve simply shared a devil face emoji.
The group had only just been called up to SmackDown with a lot of hype and promise around them, while Nox enjoyed a brief main roster run alongside Shotzi earlier this year.
Drake Maverick was part of WWE’s releases in April 2020, when he was fired and then re-hired as part of a divisive storyline which saw him reach the final of the NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.
He shared a powerful video online playing off the same one he dropped last year, as he began: ‘So I just got off the phone with WWE talent relations letting me know that as of today, I’ve been released from my contract.’
The clip then cut to him in a dark room as he tells himself he ‘can’t pull this one again’, sitting in a room with himself while urging himself to get up and that he’ll be fine.
‘They even tried to get rid of you, you made that work too,’ he added, noting he succeeded with everything WWE gave him.
The upbeat version told sad Drake to look at him, and said: ‘I know we’ve been here before. We don’t belong here anymore.’
He insisted his dream wasn’t to be a WWE superstar, but instead a professional wrestler as he noted: ‘You can’t be fired from wrestling.’
Drake told himself they have more to accomplish as he came in, turned off his phone camera and headed into the bathroom to splash water on his face, when he then took off his WWE logo t-shirt before the phone starts ringing.
