The Dead Man and the Doctor of Thuganomics have both left a lasting impact on the world of wrestling, but it seems Taker has some feelings about the Hollywood star’s journey to the top.
During his appearance on The Broken Skull Sessions on the WWE Network, the Phenom played a game of word association with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, offering his quickfire thoughts on other superstars.
When it came to Cena himself, Undertaker paused for a moment before saying: ‘Overachiever.’
Across his illustrious career, Cena has become a 16-time World Champion – tied with only Ric Flair – and the face of WWE for over a decade, before crossing over to the mainstream in a way not seen since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
This all came after the champ was almost fired before saving his career almost by accident with his hip-hop gimmick.
During the game, Taker said that Paul Heyman and Shane McMahon had a ‘tremendous’ mind and energy respectively, while he described Kane as ‘solid as a rock’, and insisted Roman Reigns is the ‘future of the Samoan dynasty’.
Keeping it in the family, he hailed the late, great Yokozuna as an ‘awesome talent’ but a ‘better friend’.
He admitted Giant Gonzalez – who he faced in a rare misstep at WrestleMania IX – was a ‘tough day at the office’, although he was surprisingly giving when it came to Goldberg.
Thanks to a whole range of circumstances, Taker was inches away from dying during a catastrophic match with the WCW legend in Saudi Arabia, but he still described his one time opponent as an ‘icon’.
He had similarly kind words for longtime rival and friend Triple H, calling him ‘one of the best’, and he simply noted that “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt is the ‘future’.
Paul Bearer – Taker’s late manager who helped defined the character and take it to the next level – had a huge impact on his career, and the Phenom admitted he is ‘truly missed’ following his death in 2013.
*The Undertaker makes his final farewell to Survivor Series tonight (November 22) at midnight on BT Sport Box Office and the WWE Network.
