Will there be a season 2 of Squid Game?

Following season 1’s success, director, creator and writer of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, confirmed that a second season is in the works.

Dong-hyuk revealed the news on November 9, 2021, during an interview with the Associated Press.

“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season,” he told the media outlet.

“So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season.”

Right now, the new season is only “in the planning process” and it remains unclear when a release date will be established.

In January 2022 Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that season two is coming.

When asked if there would be a second season Sarandos said “Absolutely the ‘Squid Game’ universe has just begun.”

The show recently made history as star O Yeong-su won best supporting actor at the Golden Globes.

O Yeong-su’s win is historical as he is the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe.

Fans can watch all of season 1 exclusively on Netflix in preparation for the new season.

How successful has Squid Game been?

The Netflix hit-show premiered on September 17, 2021 and reached number one in 90 countries in just 10 days.

The K-drama became Netflix’s most popular non-English show within days, surpassing current record holder Bridgerton.

The show was filmed in Daejeon, South Korea, about an hour away from Seoul.

What is the internet saying about Squid Game?

If you’ve recently open Netflix’s streaming service, chances are you’ve seen Squid Games listed as the top show in the US.

In response to the series, the internet is taking their thoughts and theories to social media.

One person tweeted: “Squid Game got me hooked.”

Another wrote: “episode 6 of squid game had me bawling my eyes out on a friday night wishing i could speak to the writer so i could ask him WHY.”

A third revealed it was “about time I watch squid games. everyone’s still talking about it.”

Following the news of the second season, fans were seen again on the social media platform expressing their excitement.

“WE WON,” multiple users stated while other added in that they are “super excited.”

Despite the excitement, many fans also pointed out that the news seems “forced by Netflix,” since Dong-hyuk has previously stated the story was finished.
