UK weather outlook for Wednesday and Thursday

June could be hottest EVER, bookies say

Next month could go down as the hottest June on record, according to Ladbrokes.

With hot weather on the way over the coming days, the bookies have already cut odds from 5/1 to just 2/1 on next month playing host to the hottest June EVER.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “A record-breaking hot June will more than make up for what looks set to be a miserable end to May, and the odds suggest that’s exactly what we could have.”

UV levels will be high in some areas

UV levels look set to be high or moderate today.

The Met Office have warned Brits to make sure they protects their skin when heading out today.

Early June forecast

Over the weekend, fine and dry weather with clear and sunny spells expected for most, however some cloud and light showers remain possible, especially in the north and east.

Despite a chilly start on Saturday, near normal temperatures can be expected for most, perhaps feeling warmer in the south and southwest.

Into the following week, the weather is likely to become more settled, with any few showers most likely to be seen in the north and east, where it may feel fresher and cooler.

This means above average temperatures away from the north and east, with drier conditions expected for most.

As we move into the beginning of June, drier than average conditions are expected to persist overall.

Londoners could see highs of 18C tomorrow

Dry and bright initially, but cloud thickening from the west through the day.

Breezier with patchy outbreaks of rain spreading east from early afternoon.

Drier, brighter in the west later with maximum temperatures of 18 °C.

Temperatures will be on the rise soon

Temperatures next week could exceed the current 2022 high of 27.5C, as Brits prepare to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at the start of June.

British Weather Services senior meteorologist Jim Dale said the heat could “ramp up”.

He said: “I think as we approach that weekend it might well ramp up… on the run into that weekend we might see something that’s a little bit warmer – maybe even very warm.”

Winds could reach gale-force in Scotland

In Scotland, the winds could reach gale-force speeds, with ground frost spotted in parts.

Mr McGivern told the Mirror: “Jet stream really revving up during the next couple of days pushing these features in from the Atlantic deepening some areas of low pressure to the north of the UK and making it fairly unseasonable for most of us.”

But it’s not all bad news, with warmer weather set to return ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Three days of thunderstorms

Brits will be blasted by three days of thunderstorms and downpours as a “revved up jet stream” moves in from the Atlantic.

Sunseekers have so far basked in scorching May sunshine, with a roasting 27.5C marking the hottest day of the year so far.

But Brits are now being urged to unpack their umbrellas, as an unseasonable spring chill and three-days of rain is set to hit the UK.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said the week will bring “three days or so of rain, showers and a keen breeze especially on Wednesday and Thursday before the weather settles down for the weekend.”

Today will bring “lively showers” to much of the UK – along with hail and thunder.

And Wednesday will be no different, with “wet and windy weather” due to hit.

Thunder and hail risk this evening

Remaining areas of rain, locally heavy, over eastern England soon clearing, then all parts having a day of sunny spells and scattered showers, some heavy with risk of thunder and hail.

Fewer showers and more sunshine in west this afternoon.

Tonight showers in east will start fading, then dry with clear spells in central and eastern parts will begin to emerge.

Cloudier and breezier in west and north with rain moving east, locally heavy in northwest Scotland.

Spring was unusually dry and cold recently. It seemed to have hit late this year with a wet May.

Following heavy rain do not mow your grass once the rain has stopped. Add some fertiliser and leave it be for a couple of days.

Keep an eye out for mushroom growth, if there are any, pull them out.

Mow the grass once it is dry, but be careful to not cut it too short. The longer blades protect the ground from drying up.

150mph Atlantic winds to batter the UK this week

In a strange event for this time of year, rapid and powerful winds from the North Atlantic are set to smash into Britain this week. 

These winds will be coupled with rain and the potential of thunder. 

In an annoucment, the Met Office said: “A 150mph jet stream will cross the north Atlantic to bring an unseasonably windy spell to the UK midweek.

“Coastal gales are likely in the northwest on Wednesday and Thursday, there’s still some uncertainty in the details so keep an eye on the forecast over the coming days.”
