Warning: spoilers ahead for episode nine of WandaVision.
The season finale of WandaVision was released today on Disney Plus, with episode nine of the explosive MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) series seeing Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) becoming fully realised as the Scarlet Witch in her battle against Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn).
The final instalment came with plenty of thrilling twists, including the highly-anticipated face off between Vision (Paul Bettany) and White Vision, a mention of Doctor Strange’s Sorcerer Supreme and an answer – finally – to the question of who is Pietro Maximoff (Evan Peters).
Instead, it was Evan on her doorstep, who depicted a different version of Quicksilver, Peter Maximoff, in the X-Men film franchise.
Numerous fans thought his entrance signalled a crossover between the X-Men universe and the MCU, following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019.
But after it was revealed that Agatha was controlling Pietro in Westview, viewers were incredibly curious over whether this theory would eventually be confirmed, or if Pietro would turn out to be someone entirely different.

So what is Pietro’s real identity and could the X-Men still tie into the MCU?
What is Pietro Maximoff’s real identity?
After bumping into Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in the post-credits scene of episode eight, Pietro brings her into his house, which she originally thought was Agnes’ property.
When inside, and prevented from leaving by Pietro, Monica spies some documents in his ‘man cave’ addressed to a certain ‘Ralph Bohner’.
At the mention of the surname Bohner, Pietro chuckles, laughing at the innuendo in the way Evan’s X-Men version of Quicksilver would.
But Monica then brings him round to his senses by ripping a necklace off his neck that had been enchanted by Agatha, before stating: ‘Nice to meet you Ralph.’
Countless WandaVision fans expressed their disappointment over the big reveal that Pietro is simply Ralph, a resident of Westview who was being controlled by Agatha and made to seem like an alternate version of Wanda’s twin brother.
‘Not Pietro being Ralph Bo(h)ner. A waste of an Evan Peters cameo for a boner joke,’ one person remarked.
‘Honestly though… that Ralph/Pietro reveal was quite disappointing to me,’ another tweeted.
‘I feel like it was a mistake to have Evan Peters even be part of the show, I don’t understand what would’ve been different if it was ATJ.’
However, considering Evan was cast in WandaVision to play a different version of a character he had previously played in another Marvel project, could this still end up being a double bluff with an X-Men/MCU crossover on the cards?
Could Evan Peters’ Quicksilver still tie the X-Men in with the MCU?
Despite the somewhat anticlimactic reveal that Pietro’s real name is Ralph and the character seemingly has no other connection to the world of superheroes in the MCU, there are some WandaVision fans who are still holding out hope that he will end up being revealed as X-Men’s Quicksilver at some point down the line.
Even Wanda was confused by the altered appearance of Pietro (Picture: Marvel/Disney)
‘What if Evan Peters is the person in witness protection and that’s why his name is Ralph Bohner but it’s really Peter from X-Men?’ one person said, in reference to a line FBI agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) previously said about a resident of Westview being in a witness protection programme.
‘Why was Ralph Bohner’s documentation just lying there? It would only be imp if he was in witness protection. What if he’s still X-Men Pietro Maximoff, but he appeared before the show and needed a fake identity?’ another commented.
The end of WandaVision is far from the end of Wanda’s story, as she’s next set to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, at which point she will have an even greater understanding of her power as the Scarlet Witch.
For all we know, this may not be the end of the road for Pietro – or Ralph – either.
WandaVision is available to watch on Disney Plus.
