And Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark has spoken out in support of Hallie on social media, saying that it is a big moment in the show’s history.
He wrote: “Hallie telling her housemates she is trans is a real big moment, especially in Big Brother history.
“Hallie was born the same year as BB6.
“Nadia Almada won BB5 as the first ever trans winner of the show 19 years ago as the British Public voted for her. 8.3 million watched. 6.4 million voted.
“Hallie wasn’t even born when Nadia won.
“What a woman. Seeing the housemates’ reaction is exactly why this show still matters and why I’ve always loved it.”
During Big Brother’s original 19-season run, it crowned two transgender winners, Nadia Almada in 2004 and Luke Anderson in 2012.
Other trans housemates to compete on the show include media personality Lauren Harries and newsreader India Willoughby.
Rebekah Shelton and Rebekah Alves have both come out as transgender since appearing on the show.
Several fans flocked to the comments to join with Rylan in praising Hallie for sharing who she is with the public.
One person wrote: “It’s been great and was lovely to see. Go Hallie!”
Another agreed: “Same! I love when we see moments like this, where people respect and support each other. It’s nice to see her accepted and treated decently by everyone in there so far.”
A third viewer shared: “Yay! I’m so glad you’re supporting Hallie. She certainly seems to have the country behind her.”
A third viewer congratulated Big Brother bosses for having her on the programme, saying: “In the present climate when large sections of the media and some politicians are whipping up hostility against the trans community this is very brave.”
