Iain has taken a new role up at ITV as executive producer for continuing drama, which sees him have oversight of both Corrie and Emmerdale.
But MailOnline report bosses at the broadcaster have been unable to attract new producers to fill his spot.
Sources have described filling the vacancy as a ‘big headache’ as Iain’s deputy and wife Verity MacLeod is currently filling the gap.
An insider told the publication: “ITV have had conversations with a number of television executives who are currently working on other serial dramas or have in the past been at the helm of big shows.

“But no one wants to do it. One of the things putting people off is the fact that you’d be answering to Iain while having his wife as your deputy.
“It’s a ‘MacLeod sandwich’ that no one wants to be in the middle of and it’s now become even more of a headache for ITV.”
The Sun has contacted ITV for comment.
Iain was the boss of the Weatherfield-based soap since 2018 when he replaced Kate Oates.
He is responsible for Sinead Tinker’s tragic cancer diagnosis and marriage to Daniel Osbourne, the introduction of the Bailey family and how Nina and Seb became embroiled in a vicious hate crime.
Fans were left fuming over Iain’s promotion as they slammed his time at the helm of the show.
Maurren Lipman, who plays Evelyn Plummer on the cobbles, previously urged bosses to take it ‘back to basics’.
The 77-year-old said: “We’ve come to a point in Corrie now where people are getting murdered in knicker factories.
“We’re having domestic abuse. Anything that ticks the box of social problems in the 21st century is going to be in your local soap.”
