Fans of BBC quiz show Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel are demanding a GoFundMe be set up for one of tonight’s contestants after his game went horribly, horribly wrong.
Liverpudlian Barrie’s dream of taking his wife and kids to Florida got off to a fine start as he correctly answered questions about Andrew Scott’s ‘hot priest’ on Fleabag and correctly answering ‘baritone’ for a question on male singing voices.
He also potted £3000 for correctly answering a question about horse racing, even without the help of legendary jockey Frankie Dettori, who racing fan Barrie joked had already cost him enough money in the past.
Barrie’s streak came to an end after BBC stalwart Tony Blackburn incorrectly guessed the answer to a question about his own employer banning the song ‘Monster Mash’ in the 1960s.
But Barrie’s night didn’t end there. The random contestant-generating wheel worked in his favour, and he reappeared in the centre almost as soon as he’d left.
Barrie again answered a few questions correctly in quick succession.
It seemed leprechaun luck was finally on his side as the wheel landed on Ireland expert Maura Higgins to help him with a £10,000 question on her homeland.
But the Love Island star said Tipperary was further from Cork than Donegal, sending Barry down the trap door once more.
Barrie later emerged from the depths for a third time, just one question away from the jackpot, and chose the night’s best expert, Maggie Aderin-Pocock, to help him win the £10,500 prize.

But the scientist stumbled on the question about road signs, and Barrie’s night on the wheel was finally finished for good.
Fans were devastated by the news, and took to Twitter to express their dismay, with many calling for a charity fund for the dad.
‘Watched #TheWheel after Strictly…disaster. Poor Barrie. Think someone should start a Go Fund Me and everyone watching throw in a quid each. Brutal! #2020strikesagain,’ one tweeted.
‘Is there a Go Fund Me page for Barrie? That poor guy,’ asked another.
Even one of Barrie’s fellow contestants joked she’d give Barrie some of her winnings.
In a bizarre twist, none of the contestants ultimately won the prize money.
Final contestant Kirstie had a chance to win a £42,000 prize pot with one correct answer but ultimately lost, stunning host Michael McIntyre.
‘It’s the happy ending-less show! I’m so depressed!’ he shouted. ‘Has anybody got some Air Miles we can give Barrie or something?’
And later joked: ‘This show is supposed to raise the mood of the nation…I’d rather watch a Prime Ministerial briefing! We never thought nobody would win.’
