THE Flash star Shantel VanSanten has revealed why she was ‘abruptly written out’ of show after the boss ‘got very upset with her’.
Shantel, 35, joined the show in season two as Patty Spivot, a potential love interest for the titular character Barry Allen, played by Grant Gustin.
Patty was a Central City police detective who discovered Joe West and Barry’s anti-metahuman task force, and she later shared a kiss with The Flash.
While Patty was never intended to be a long-term love for Barry, who ends up with childhood friend Iris in the comic books, Patty still exited the show more abruptly than was originally planned.
While she was supposed to stay until the end of season two, Shantel left in episode 11, after she had secured a role on another TV show.
She recently revealed: “I don’t think it was supposed to end as quickly as it did. I don’t know if a whole lot of people know this, but I actually worked it out with my contract so I could finish the whole season and be around.
“But a showrunner that’s no longer on that show was very upset with me, and so he put me on a train all of a sudden, and I left.”
Patty departed the show by heading off on a train to Midway City U after saying goodbye to Barry and the gang.
Shantel, who appears in Amazon hit series The Boys, added she is still friends with a lot of The Flash cast and had “the best time.”
But she said: “It was a bummer that somebody allowed their own personal feelings to come in the way of what was best for a story”.
Season two aired in 2015 and at the time, Andrew Kreisberg, Gabrielle Stanton, Aaron Helbing and Todd Helbing were all serving as showrunners.
Aaron left the series during season three, while Todd departed in season five and Andrew was fired by Warner Bros. TV in 2017 following allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment.
