From the mannerisms of actors Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin – who has already been tipped by fans for awards – to the costumes, the results, most can agree, are completely uncanny.
Here are some of the key moments the show managed to get absolutely spot on.
Charles and Diana’s engagement announcement

Prince Charles and Diana Spencer announced their engagement in February 1981, and held a press conference to speak about their upcoming nuptials.
There was a staged photoshoot as well as a televised interview, during which they spoke about their relationship.
Diana is seen bashfully hiding behind her hair as Charles mostly spoke on behalf of the both of them – all of which is recreated on the show.
This includes one foreboding moment from Charles, when, asked by a reporter if the pair were in love, he responded: ‘Of course! Whatever “in love” means.’

A dance in Australia

By the time the pair went on a tour of Australia as part of their Royal duties, their marriage was already on rocky grounds.
However, they put on a united front and in one sweet moment they are seen dancing in the middle of a ball together.
In a bright blue ball gown covered in ruffles, the pair were seen enjoying an intimate moment, even though they were already beginning to distance themselves from each other away from the public eye.
In the show, it’s this trip that makes them decide to try and work through their problems, although Charles’s jealousy of Diana’s success in the eyes of the Australian people soon caused an even bigger wedge.

The polo meeting
Back before Diana became a Princess, she is seen on The Crown meeting Prince Charles following the death of Lord Mountbatten.
Just 18 at the time, Diana was seen re-introducing herself to the heir to the throne, in a pair of bright yellow dungarees and a floral shirt.
While Emma Corrin’s version had a cardigan on, the rest of the outfit was completely accurate.
In the show, it was this moment that made Charles decide to pursue Diana, and they were soon heading out on a date together.
