Taika Waititi has joked he’s ‘honoured’ to have a nervous breakdown in order to bring us Thor: Love and Thunder as the Chris Hemsworth film wrapped shooting this week – and we couldn’t be more appreciative.
The director, who has been based in Australia for production, shared a behind-the-scenes snap alongside ol’ mate Chris as they posed in character.
And Rita Ora – who is dating Taika – was on hand to support and celebrate, as she responded to the brilliant shot, which saw an out-of-this-world hench Chris flexing as the hammer-wielding God, while the film’s director was also seen in tech get-up as the voice of Korg.
While the shot may look all sorts of irreverent and brilliant, the writer is clearly giving this project his all to make sure we’re seeing it in cinemas on schedule.
Taika wrote: ‘And that’s a wrap on Thor: Love and Thunder. ❤️➕⚡️
‘Sometimes two people come together to inspire the world and change the cinematic landscape forever. And then there’s me and @chrishemsworth who are too cool to care about anything except making movies that bring people absolute joy. Ok I don’t look cool I know that.
‘This film is the craziest thing I’ve ever done and I’m honoured to bust my ass and have a nervous breakdown so you can all see it in May 2022.’
Responding to the shot, Rita – who has been linked with Taika since April – shared partying face emoji, while Jason Momoa added: ‘Amazing.’
It really is.
Chris shared the same image to his own account, writing: ‘That’s a wrap on Thor Love and Thunder, it’s also national don’t flex day so I thought this super relaxed photo was appropriate.
‘The film is gonna be batsh*t crazy off the wall funny and might also pull a heart string or two. Lots of love, lots of thunder!
‘Thank you to all the cast and crew who made this another incredible Marvel journey. Buckle in, get ready and see ya in cinemas!!’
Superhero sequel Thor: Love And Thunder is set for release in May next year as part of phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It will see Tessa Thompson reprising her role as Valkyrie from 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok while Natalie Portman returns as Jane Foster and Christian Bale is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as villain Gorr the God Butcher.
The anticipated film was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 and the plot will feature Portman’s character becoming Mighty Thor, Goddess of Thunder.
Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled for release May 6, 2022.
