Strictly hit our screens in 2004 on BBC1.
Fans will be shocked to know that it could have been Denise on our screens with Bruce, rather than Tess.
Speaking to entrepreneur and investor Matt Haycox on The Matt Haycox Show, Denise confessed: “When they very first came up with the idea of Strictly Come Dancing, I knew Bruce Forsyth really well and had done a few shows with him. We used to sing together.
“He came to me and approached me to be sidekick for Strictly Come Dancing.
“He said to me ‘there is this show, it’s all ballroom, it’s going to be celebrities’ and he said I want to open the show with a song and dance number with you, close it with you.
“He knew that I danced and I sang. I remember sitting there and I went to him ‘Bruce, it sounds really boring…
” So they gave it to Tess Daley.”
The telly favourite confessed that she did think that she had made a mistake, but now thinks that everything happened for a reason.
“At the time I remember it was a huge hit and I was thinking maybe I was a bit of an idiot there turning that down,” Denise continued.
“But actually when I look back because Tess has done it for many years, but just kind of does that and she’s associated with it, whereas I went on to do broadway, I’ve done film, I’ve done theatre in the West End.
“I’ve done so many other things. I would have had such a varied career, so actually for me, it worked out.”
It comes days after it was revealed that Denise has moved on with a new man, eight months after her from split from Eddie Boxshall.
“It’s early days but everything is going really well and Denise is happy,” a source told the Mail.
The pair have “been on a few dates” after All Saints singer Shaznay Lewis introduced them.
Later than evening she made her red carpet debut with hunky new property developer boyfriend Jimmy Barba at the Grand Prix Ball which was held at The Hurlingham Club in Fulham.
Denise was with commodities trader Eddie Boxshall since 2014 but they split in January when he admitted messaging other women.
