The couple were immediately axed from the show after Katya tested positive for Covid-19 last week. They are both self-isolating separately, as per government guidelines.
It’s now being claimed that Strictly producers are keen for the duo to return for an extended dance in the finale episode.
‘Strictly bosses knew as soon as Nicola had to leave that they wanted to do something special for her,’ an insider said.
‘The rules mean she can’t come back to the show next year but they’re planning to bring her back with Katya for the final.’
The source added to The Sun: ‘And Katya is a much valued professional on the show and is hugely popular. This hasn’t affected her place in the Strictly family.’

Nicola and Katya made Strictly history in the show’s first-ever same-sex partnership.
After her premature exit, Olympic boxer Nicola vowed to continue to ‘break boundaries and make changes, and continue fighting for what’s right.’
Meanwhile, Katya heaped praise on her dance partner for her energy over the last few weeks.
‘Dancing with Nicola has been an absolute inspiration. She’s given her all each and every week and we were so excited to create more dances in the competition,’ she said.
‘Of course, I’m devastated to leave this way but I’ve made a friend for life and loved every moment of this special journey. I’d like to wish good luck to all the remaining couples!’
It’s being hoped that Nicola will be allowed to return in the 2021 series to continue her quest for the Strictly glitterball.
