Countdown presenter Nick Hewer has announced plans to quit the Channel 4 show after 10 years, but Rachel Riley is determined to have a little fun before he goes.
Rachel responded to the presenter’s leaving announcement by saying she plans to ‘slip in’ a few easter eggs for fans before Nick’s time on the show is up.
It comes after Nick released a statement saying: ‘Delighted to be back in the Countdown studio after another enforced lockdown, BUT this latest lockdown has given me an opportunity to consider my future life and I’ve decided it’s a good time to step down at the end of my contract in the New Year.’
He added: ‘As someone in his 77th year, who will be in his 10th year hosting the great British institution that is Countdown, I think it’s time to smell the flowers and get a dog.’
Rachel was quick to reply to the message, hinting at the cheeky plans she had for the presenter.
She wrote: ‘Right, time to get a bingo list of things you need to slip into the show while you’re hosting.’

Fans should keep a close eye out over the coming weeks – there are sure to be a few surprises along the way if Rachel’s message is anything to go by.
Fans have been speculating on who could join Rachel and Susie Dent on the daytime programme as the new host, and a few names have emerged as early favourites.
The bookies favourite to take over from Nick on Countdown is currently Paul O’Grady. This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes is also in contention, just days after it was confirmed that he and his wife Ruth Langsford have been replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on the ITV show.
Nick has presented Countdown since taking over from Jeff Stelling. Colin Murray recently hosted the episodes that were filmed during the second lockdown.
Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
