WHO does Keir Starmer think he is kidding with his “Labour’s coming home” nonsense after barely scraping to victory in Batley, a seat he already held?
This line, nicked from Tony Blair in 1996, was delivered yesterday with the same self-satisfied smirk we see in the Commons whenever he imagines he’s put one over on Boris Johnson.

But when he says Labour triumphed “against the odds”, what is he on about?
With respect to new MP Kim Leadbeater, Labour SHOULD hold its own seats in by-elections. The only headwinds are of Starmer’s own making.
Half his party loathe him. The Corbynite faction egged on George Galloway’s nasty, divisive campaign hoping to defeat Starmer and replace him.
His leadership is so wooden and uninspiring, his opportunistic grandstanding so repugnant and his policy vacuum so lamentable that there was a swing of 2.9 per cent TO the Tories in Batley, the biggest for a governing party in 39 years.
And they would be waging civil war over Starmer today, instead of bigging up a 323-vote win in a Labour area like it was VE Day.
Starmer has won nothing but a bit more time before the hard-Left’s vultures swoop.
But there was little to comfort the Tories either, the swing aside.
They thought Batley, like other Leave-voting northern seats in 2019, was in the bag. That complacency was fatal.
Tory Red Wall MPs fear they may be on borrowed time. Does No10 fully grasp that?
Why is it allowing voters to believe there is one set of rules for Tories and their friends and another for the little people?
That hypocrisy is at the heart of the Hancock scandal — and the waiving of quarantine for rich business chiefs.
The Lib-Dems are snatching true-blue council seats and in Chesham took a Tory constituency.
Boris cannot take the South for granted any more than the Red Wall.
The PM must be alive to these dangers.
WHEN even the most risk-averse medics say the jabs have beaten Covid, why haven’t we already been liberated?
Deaths have stayed low despite cases still rising.

Even arch gloomster Dr Jenny Harries, now chief of the UK Public Health Agency, confirms the vaccines have worked a miracle.
The “R” rate is falling in England too.
Yet still we only crawl towards July 19.
What more evidence does the Government need?
