Katherine Jenkins has revealed her daughter’s reaction to her being the Octopus on The Masked Singer – and it’s seriously adorable.
The opera singer appeared on the first series of the ITV show when it aired last year and landed third place, after comedian Jason Manford and Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts.
Due to the extreme secrecy of the series, Katherine was unable to tell her five-year-old daughter Aaliyah Reign of her place in the competition, but she eventually found out she responded in the cutest way.
‘It was just such a bonkers experience, honestly,’ Katherine said as she reflected on her time on the programme. ‘I did it because my daughter is really into Blue Planet. She loves octopus characters and purple and pink.
‘I wanted to choose songs she would love. When it aired, I couldn’t say anything to anybody.
‘I couldn’t tell her. I knew she’d hear my voice and say at school, “My mummy’s an octopus!”.’
Katherine continued: ‘I showed her right at the end once the final had been on TV.
‘When I took the head off, she said, “Well done mummy, you were really good”.’
Katherine shares two children win her husband Andrew Levitas, daughter Aaliyah and son Xander, two.
Of trying to hide her identity on The Masked Singer, Katerine continued: ‘I was disguising my voice because I worked with a singing teacher to strip back the classic sounds, all of the opera sounds, which was actually quite hard.
‘In the beginning, I tried to use an American accent as my Welsh accent is so strong and I thought it would be a big giveaway.’
She added: ‘I just thought it would be really fun. And kind of to step out of my comfort zone.’
The Masked Singer is available to stream on the ITV Hub.
