Need to relax or have a good cry? Well, Celeste and Jorja Smith will help you do just that with their new therapeutic music series on BBC Sounds.
Singers Jorja and Celeste are launching a new 12-part series that is hoping to help uplift and restore us all with powerful music said to ‘soothe the soul’.
Jorja, who has teamed up with the likes of Drake and rapper Stormzy in the past, will be kicking things off with her show Tearjerker with Jorja Smith that will delve into the healing powers music can have.
Hoping to give us all that cathartic release with a good old cry, Jorja will be treating listeners to everything from Beethoven piano classics to the silky and soothing tones of artists like James Blake.
‘It’s important to try and find time to just let go and let music take you to a different place,’ she says.
Of her new series, Jorja added: ‘I hope the music in my new series – from strings and piano to songs and soundtracks – will help you whatever you’re feeling, bring out different emotions and make you feel a little better. Presenting it made me feel a lot more relaxed too.’

Celeste, meanwhile, is heading up her own Downtime Symphony series in her bid to help us all unwind and escape for an hour with classically-infused house music and hip-hip and a bit of jazz fusion.
Insisting that we could all do with a moment to de-stress and put the crazy goings-on of a global pandemic to the back of our minds, Celeste has said she’s determined to help us all slow down in what can only be described as a chaotic year.
‘Separating work and relaxation is so important for creativity and wellness, now more than ever,’ she pointed out.

‘I’m delighted to be presenting a series which spotlights the best music for slowing down, filled with musical nostalgia and discovery.’
An hour to ourselves kicking back and relaxing? You can count us in.
It comes after Celeste revealed at the end of December that she is soon set to be bringing out her debut album, titled Not Your Muse and featuring 12 tracks.
She announced the release will drop in February on Instagram and told fans: ‘Not Your Muse is the power I found when I felt powerless… in making this album I have allowed myself to arrive at a place where I feel empowered, fiercely wide-eyed and fulfilled.
‘I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved on my debut album and to be in this position, after the year that has been, I feel nothing but gratitude and excitement. I hope you enjoy it.’
Tearjerker with Jorja Smith kicks off on January 16, while Downtime Symphony with Celeste begins on January 23 and both continue weekly on BBC Sounds.
