Jason Momoa, part of Dune’s star-studded cast alongside Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Oscar Isaac, has revealed that Denis Villeneuve’s movie is his ‘favourite film ever’, as well as claiming his character Duncan Idaho would ‘always beat’ co-star Dave Bautista’s in a fight.
Duncan Idaho serves House Atreides as a gung-ho sword-master and trusted advisor to Duke Leto (Isaac), as well as his son, Paul (Chalamet), while Bautista’s Glossu Rabban Harkonnen is an enemy and the muscle for his gruesome uncle, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård).
Speaking to Metro.co.uk on the red carpet for Dune’s London premiere, Momoa went in strong backing Duncan in a fight, even provoking his absent co-star as he declared: ‘In this movie? Well, I’d always beat Dave. You hear that Dave? I’d always beat Dave.’
He then added: ‘I’m just joking!’
When it was pointed out Momoa could take advantage of Guardians of the Galaxy star Bautista’s lack of presence at the premiere and say what he liked, he was more conciliatory.
‘It’s alright, Dave’s stronger than me. He can beat my a** – I’ll be honest,’ admitted the 42-year-old.

But he was still backing Duncan over Glossu Rabban, also known as ‘The Beast’, as he concluded: ‘In the world of Dune yeah, I totally beat him up. Sorry Dave.’
Discussing his experience on Dune, the Game of Thrones star shared that it was actually ‘the number one’ movie he’d worked on during his career, and Duncan was in his ‘top five’ characters (this is the guy who’s played Aquaman and Khal Drogo too, in fairness).

When pondering where Duncan ranked, Momoa said: ‘Top five. Top five, for sure. For me, it’s my favourite film I’ve ever been a part of.
He continued: ‘It’s not all on my shoulders, which is nice. I get to work with the best cast I’ve ever worked with in my life. It’s my favourite director. So, it’s definitely the number one as far as film [goes].
The self-confessed ‘sci-fi fan’ was also happy to share a little something on his current project, that small indie film called Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which was teased during Sunday’s DC FanDome event with some footage of the actor’s first day on the sequel’s set.

‘It’s just bigger, better, wetter, wilder. I’m laughing a lot, we’re having a lot of fun. It’s some good comedy and there’s some stuff that’s imitating life [and] what’s going on with our environment.’
Branding the DC film ‘timely’ he added: ‘It really gives us a glance of what the future is and what’s coming.’
Dune is released in cinemas on October 21. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is currently scheduled for release on December 16, 2022.
